Need for a humanity/democracy index#170

Investment decisions need to consider humanity and democracy along with climate effects. One of the latest examples from United Nations:
https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/12/1166507
General Assembly demands return of Ukrainian children by Russia

  • 91 voted for => IT would make sense to prioritize investments in these
  • 57 didn’t vote => passive support, Trine should show high ethics and highlight that each investment also support a regime who belive “kidnapping of children” is OK. Trine today promotes many of these regimes.
  • 12 voted against => Fortunately Trine isn’t an active supporter of this club.

I’m not sure I agree with your point, I would say it totally depends on how the project is done by Trine.

What I mean with that is that even if the country has an regime that don’t care about human rights I can totally see the point on supporting local communities or companies in that country.

As I don’t believe Trine is actively working with a regime that works against the human rights I even see it as even more important to help the people in those countries to get it better.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective and for raising this important point. I appreciate how thoughtfully you have framed the broader context.

You are right that investment decisions should not only consider climate impact but also take into account human rights governance and broader societal factors. While a government vote or position does not necessarily reflect the values or lived realities of a country’s people and can be influenced by diplomacy and external pressure, the underlying concern you raise is valid. These dimensions deserve continued attention and careful consideration.

At Trine, we recognise the importance of continuously strengthening how we assess and manage human rights and governance risks alongside climate impact. Transparency around these assessments and how they inform our investment decisions is an area we are committed to improving over time.

Thank you again for engaging with us on this topic and for holding us to a high ethical standard.

Best,

Liz
